Located a few meters from the Hotel, the Basilica of Saint Anthony is a place of pilgrimage for millions of believers every year. The church was built to replace the older and modest Santa Maria Mater Domini, in which Saint Anthony had originally been buried, but which after his death had become a place of pilgrimage due to the miracles that reportedly had been taking place. The construction of the basilica was completed in 1310 but in the course of the centuries there have been numerous maintenance interventions.

In the square in front of the basilica stands the equestrian monument of the Condottiero Gattamelata of Donatello, dating back to mid-1400.
